ault 3 drops down to ault 4 w/ negligence to injure with weapon, Pre-Trial is set for April now what?

My husband initially was charged with ault 3 w/weapon, yesturday he had a Pre Indictment hearing that was "court vacated" and the charge was dropped down to a Misdemeanor ault 4 with negligence to injure with weapon. Today he had a bail hearing and had the 3rd party conditions removed. He pled innocent to the original charge, They did not indict him on the felony charge so they dropped it down to a Misdeamenor ault 4 and a Pre Trial is set or April, he is on bail as of today. What now after they dropped the charges down? EVen if theydropped the charges down why are they taking it to a Pre trial? I dont understand, is it because he plead innocent to the original charge? He spent 12 days in jail till he got bailed out, thanks for your help!
