Tenants rights ny state?

we had a verbal agreement with our land lord when we moved in on the first of aug withing the month she changed her story and added new things she wanted us to due so on the day be for rent was due we brought her a lease agreement to review the very next day she served us with a vacate notice by the first of nov is there any law that says because we tried to rectify the problem with a lease agreement she cant terminate our possession of rental like that
