Hair removal cream caused lots of red bumps on shoulders and back?

I used a hair removal cream a couple weekends ago. We had some disturbances and I probably left the cream on my shoulders and back on a little too long and had trouble rinsing off in the shower (I'm not as flexible as I thought!). I'm pretty sure I rubbed a little hard trying to get some of it off... Anyway, I noticed a week later I have a LOT of red pimple-like bumps along my shoulders and back.. none anywhere else I used the cream. It's been a couple weeks, it's starting to itch because the hair's growing back... any ideas on how I can treat the "pimples"?
