When should this scene take place?

Here's a piece of the prologue and I'm not sure whether it should take place in ancient times or present (The story is taking place in the present.) : "Slightly repulsed, Agnes moved the basket away from her body with her foot. Whatever was in there was also heavy. She was just about to turn around and return to her _____." Thanks! :-)
